Fortunato x The Dirty Sample – The Grime

The first single from Fortunato x The Dirty Sample is out now…

For the first single from The Coalition, Fortunato’s new collaboration album with producer The Dirty Sample, the blue collar MC goes back to basics. “The Grime” is just Fortunato snapping. Sometimes an MC needs to assert themselves and put an exclamation point on what makes them who they are. “I spit cacophonies awesomely, y’all can hold my coffee” is peak Fortunato braggadocio but also highlights his passion for wordplay. A little deeper, it’s also about dark thoughts and facing demons, his words reflecting that vibe with no remorse. The Dirty Sample provides a gritty big banging beat that is the perfect backdrop for the boasting, while Sean One delivers an epic smooth jazz groove for the remix.

Mickey O’Brien’s “One Day Longer” officially released for streaming

Released early on Bandcamp, Mickey O’Brien’s pro-union anthem “One Day Longer” is now officially released and available on all streaming services…

A third generation miner by trade as well as a union steward, Mickey O’Brien was inspired in 2009 by the year long strike and legendary labour dispute between his union, United Steelworkers Local 6500, and the Brazilian mining giant Vale over hourly contract negations, penning the song “One Day Longer”, which gained worldwide notoriety from the labour movement and is still played on picket lines across the globe to this day. The song propelled him to the forefront of labour singers and saw him touring with legendary artists like Anne Feeney, most notably playing a 70,000-person protest at a general strike in Madison, Wisconsin. Now, fifteen years later, he releases the song to streaming platforms for the first time to inspire a new generation of union activists. Which side are you on?

“…captivates with its infectious rhythm and poignant lyrics.” – Roundhouse Music

While the song is no longer available due to politics, and the review ignores the MC whose song this is, Roundhouse Music still gives a great in-depth review of “Box Cutter Boogie”.
