Hailing from the much overlooked “slow school” of rap, compatriots Doogie Howitzer and Shazbot met while riding the short bus to school, and decided the time was ripe to put their helmets together and revolutionize the rap world… or at least their little corner of it.
Shazbot first entered the fray as a DJ and founding member of the quartet Creature Box along with producer-rapper Savilion, and rappers Thoughtbug and Toad1 (aka Status). He quickly adapted to life in the Box and was encouraged to channel his inner demons through rapping. Creature Box’s debut album, The Frantic Hunt for Shade, featured a few cuts and two of the album’s best verses from Shazbot. His vocals on Creature Box’s contribution to Bassments of Badmen: Volume 2 (“Ciggaret Butt Sandwitch [Call Home]”) are no less weird and exceptional. He has also contributed cuts to music by Bending Mouth, Thesis Sahib and more, as well as producing the song that would bring Shazbot and Doogie Howitzer together, “Fucdapolice,” which appeared on Legendary Entertainment’s Grimey Groovz Volume 1.
Doogie Howitzer was busy running Hand’Solo Records when he decided to found The Almighty Ughnauts! with good friends Mic Wac and Da Boobie Regulator. Only a handful of songs were recorded before the group disbanded to pursue their own individual interests. Luckily, Shazbot was inducted into the crew shortly before the recording of “Fucdapolice,” which was mistakenly labelled as an Almighty Ughnauts! track featuring Selfhelp and Kotep Omegatron (although it had no Mic Wac or Boobie). The mixing sounds like crap, and everyone involved would rather forget about it, but it is the first collaboration between those who would later become the Bucket of Gold Teeth. The next collaboration for the Bucket, “Electronic Disease,” is much better and ended up on the online compilation Meanwhile in Concrete Hell….
