Hand’Solo Halloween bundles

For the week leading up to Halloween, Hand’Solo Records is celebrating on Bandcamp with some special bundle deals of dark hip hop and horrorcore.

The best deal is the CD bundle of three CDs for the low price of $6.66. With this bundle, get All That Is, the last album from Vancouver rap duo Hidden Fortress; Creature Feature, the debut album in the successful b-movie rap franchise that is the rap trio of Swamp Thing; and Road Warriors, the post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested wasteland envisioned by nedcore duo Primal Winds.

For the other two bundle deals, save $5 per item in either bundle.

The cassette bundle costs $45 instead of the usual $60 (or $15 per cassette instead of $20 each). With this bundle, get Dark Night of the Soul, on which Nickel City horrorcore duo Magick Show channel supernatural serial killers and black magick forces; plus The Dirty Sample’s dark beat tapes Beats To Murder Rappers To and Beats To Murder Rappers 2.

The vinyl bundle costs $90 instead of the usual $110 (or $25 per 12″ and $15 for the 7″ instead of $30 per 12″ and $20 for the 7″). With this bundle, get Magick Show’s debut release, the double a-side 7″ of “Black Mass” b/w “Oz” featuring Moka Only, and their latest vinyl EP, Samhain; plus volume 1 and 2 of Ol’ Gorilla Bones x The Dirty Sample’s Revenge series.

Pasquale and Chadio release Chadiohead 2

The newest volume in the Chadiohead series… Only available on Bandcamp and select stores!

Chadiohead 2 is the second iteration in Kamloops beat maker Pasquale’s Chadiohead trilogy. This mashup project takes the vocals from Chadio’s 2007 album Underestimated Raindrops and repurposes them over cheeky remixes produced by Pasquale using Radiohead samples. The Chadiohead series is a fun nod to his favourite band that is not to be taken too seriously, resulting in a very different take on the original songs.

Out Now! Various versions of Proteus x Black Art Ninja’s Hey Motherfucker

Proteus and Black Art Ninja release a variety of versions of their newest album, Hey Motherfucker

Proteus and Black Art Ninja once again demonstrate their chemistry in their latest collaboration as the former delivers a dense barrage of b-boy braggadocio alongside references to nerd-culture, black magic, hip hop, and lots and lots of hentai over the latter’s heavy 808 drums and crunchy electronic production, a soundscape that would certainly suit the otherworldly raps of Kool Keith. Hey Motherfucker is available in three different versions: a shorter, clean edit affectionally entitled Hey Motherfunker that is suitable for radio play and proper public consumption, BAN’s remix of the vocals creating a collection of songs distinctly different from those on the explicit extended edition, which is how the album was originally intended for play; and then a cassette version provides even more music with the addition of a number of bonus songs, including three exclusive to the tape only. Pick your level of difficulty and explore this warped world envisioned by Proteus x Black Art Ninja.

Chadio’s “Gone Fishin'” vs Radiohead’s “I Might Be Wrong”

The first single from Pasquale’s Chadiohead 2 is a mashup of Chadio’s vocals from “Gone Fishin'” off his debut solo album, Underestimated Raindrops, from 2007 with the guitars from Radiohead’s “I Might Be Wrong” for “I Might Be Gone Fishin'”. Out now on Hand’Solo Records. And only available on Bandcamp!

The intro track for Kamloops beat maker Pasquale’s second iteration in the Chadiohead series takes Chadio‘s vocals from his original song “Gone Fishin’” off his debut solo album, Underestimated Raindrops, and pairs them with the main guitar sample from Radiohead’s “I Might Be Wrong”. The result is “I Might Be Gone Fishin’”, featuring Chadio’s classic braggadocio and rapid fire staccato over hypnotic guitar and haunting crooning in the background courtesy of Mr Yorke, plus Pasquale layers in some boom bap flavoru to tie it all together. Another fine mashup to prepare you for the upcoming Chadiohead 2.

The preorders for both releases dropped today, just in time for Bandcamp Friday. We have Chadiohead 2, the follow up to Pasquale’s Chadiohead, which sold out quite quickly when it dropped, and a cassette by a duo who is new to the Hand’Solo Records fam, Hey Motherfucker from Proteus x Black Art Ninja. Check some sample songs out from each down below, and consider picking up one or both for CW2025.

Short review of The Grand Howl by Indie Rock Mag

“… il y a quelque chose de Sixtoo dans les meilleurs passages …” – Indie Rock Magazine

Indie Rock Mag provides a short review of Max Moon’s The Grand Howl, likening him in his best moments to Canadian underground rap legend Sixtoo.

Translation:

Plucked strings of the double bass, discreet deconstructions, weighty atmospheres and minimalist flow: there is something of Sixtoo in the best passages (Little Do They Know and Next Time in particular) of this new album by the Canadian Max Moon, one half of Magick Show alongside Mickey O'Brien, enough to make us appreciate all the more that The Grand Owl is supported by Hand'Solo Records which helped to reveal thirty years ago this little genius of adventurous indie rap that we never talk about enough. For the rest, we navigate between excellence and ordinary, with a little too many skits perhaps but short enough not to break the atmosphere too much. The bonuses that do feel good: Fresh Kils of Backburner as co-producer, ShrapKnel and Ultra Magnus as guests... family in short.

Max Moon – The Grand Howl

The debut solo album from Max Moon, The Grand Howl, is out now. And you should check it out!

Tucked within the rugged landscape of Northern Ontario, Canada, Max Moon has been steadily carving out his own distinctive place within rap music, and his debut record is a testament to this. The Grand Howl, a reference to the collective noise of human emotion, is a blend of dusty, moody production, and free, contemplative rhyme schemes, with field recorded poetry and harmonic vocal segues. Max Moon may have previously been best known as a rapper/producer with horrorcore trio Magick Show, but his solo effort veers madly off in alternate directions. Max Moon assumes most of the album’s production duties, save contributions from Juno-nominated MPC wizard Fresh Kils (“Little Do They Know”) and acclaimed Ukraine rapper/producer Smuff Tha Quiz (“Rendezvous”). And only impactful features appear on The Grand Howl, with Max Moon enlisting the prolific duo ShrapKnel (PremRock & Curly Castro, Backwoodz Studioz) for the stream-of-consciousness barrage of “DEAD END$” and friend, label-mate, and Toronto fire-spitter Ultra Magnus for the boom-trap anthem “Scrawlings”, The end result is an album that is ultimately true to this MC.
