Home Bass > Backburner & The Library Steps now up for streaming

While they were scheduled to drop on Christmas Eve, problems with the submission for digital streaming caused delays in both Backburner’s “More Fire” and The Library Steps’ “To Friend Too Fortunate” featuring Thesis Sahib reaching streaming services in time. They finally made their way onto the services recently, and now here they are for your enjoyment…

For “More Fire”, the second single from their hotly anticipated third album, Continuum, Backburner continues to turn up the heat. Savilion, Psybo, Chokeules, More Or Les, Thesis Sahib, Frank Deluxe and MisterE combust all over the MisterE instrumental, an up-tempo throwback of slamming drums, booming bass, and funky guitar with a groovy organ dropping in and out. Bookended by crisp cuts from Uncle Fester, the crew burn basic MCs with their broad brand of Backburner braggadocio and witty wordplay. Spitting “More Fire”, the Canadian crew burn it down yet again. Is the ‘Burner hot? Put it on, yeah?!

Obviously The Library Steps don’t use uncleared samples in their music, BUT IF THEY DID, wouldn’t it be interesting if one of the beats that Ambeez sent Jesse for their album together happened to unwittingly feature the same sample that formed the nucleus (jam on it) of the 2006 Thesis Sahib song “How Fortunate”? And then, what if Jesse wrote some raps to that beat, got excited, and then sent them to 20-year-deep friend Thesis for validation and approval? And Thesis was like “Wait, why is that like my song” and they both realized what happened and had a good chuckle and reworked the new song to interpolate the old hook and added a verse from Thesis. Why then… you’d certainly have a hit single on your hands, wouldn’t you? Too bad The Library Steps don’t do that.
